You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one.
I hope some day you'll join us, and the world will be as one.
Join one little pigeon as she sets out on a journey to spread a message of tolerance around the world. Featuring the lyrics of John Lennon’s iconic song and illustrations by the award-winning artist Jean Jullien, this poignant and timely picture book dares to imagine a world at peace. Imagine will be published in partnership with human rights organization Amnesty International.
I somewhat agreed at the time, but I now wholeheartedly disagree. In a world where it seems like everything is going wrong, and the world is more divisive than ever, I think it's important that young readers have messages of diversity, peace and inclusion, introduced to them early on.
Imagine, as illustrated by Jean Jullien, uses John Lennon's lyrics to illustrate the world of a peace pigeon, carrying around the message around the world. It's a simple message with cheerful illustrations of birds and other creatures joining hand-in-hand, and finding peace as the bird shares his message. There's a lot of hope in Lennon's simple sentences, and parents and teachers can use it as a good talking point with younger readers.
I also personally found a lot of hope in the book. In a world where it seems like there is increasing amounts of personality conflicts every day, Imagine reminds me of the importance of fighting for a better future.
Highly recommend, full stop.
