Author Candace Fleming has written a zippy, cheery picture book, featuring the antics of various farm animals, as they head off to bed. It's a game of farm-orientated musical chairs, as each animal goes into their normal bed, only to discover that another farm animal has beaten them to it.
The book's lighter themes of finding a good place to rest are great, and will be an important and appreciated treat by younger and older readers alike. Fleming reinforces the need for a place to rest, and the importance of going to rest when it's time. These messages will resonate deeply, particularly with the sweet ending.
With cheerful drawings and a vibrant color palette that will make readers feel like they're on a farm themselves. Highly recommend, full stop.
