HAPPY MONDAY, GUYS!
What better way to kick-off leap day, than a cover reveal for a beloved book?
I know many of us fell in love with Stacey Lee's gorgeous Under a Painted Sky last year, especially the stunning cover. (Because seriously, how could you not?)
Well, we're proud to help Stacey share the new paperback cover for UaPS today! It's been redesigned, and Stacey stopped on by to answer a few questions + a giveaway!
When fifteen year-old Sammy, a Chinese girl living in Missouri in 1845, kills a Missouri landowner in self-defense after losing her father in a fire, she finds help from Anna-Mae, a slave girl who happened to be at the scene of the crime. Helping each other escape their own horrible fate, they become Sammy and Andy, disguised as young men to stay safe as they seek freedom in the frontier. Bound for California on the Oregon Trail, Sammy is determined to find her father’s friend and Andy is trying to meet her brother at a previously agreed-upon spot, so the girls agree to head in the same direction for as long as they’re able. Along the way, they meet a band of cowboys who quickly become their close companions. Navigating danger at every turn, powerful friendships form and dangerous romances grow as the group makes their way to California—and ultimately find pieces of what they’ve lost in each other.

Isn't it gorgeous? I love how the cover remains true to the book, and manages to capture both Sammy's heritage, and the western themes of the book.

Q: Finally, it’s been almost a year (minus sixteen days!) since Under a Painted Sky’s first book birthday. As we welcome UaPS into the paperback world, what’s one reflection that you’ve had in a year where readers have gotten to know Sammy and Andy, up close and personal?

About the author:
Stacey Lee is a fourth generation Chinese American whose people came to California during the heydays of the cowboys. She believes she still has a bit of cowboy dust in her soul. A native of Southern California, she graduated from UCLA then got her law degree at UC Davis King Hall. After practicing law in the Silicon Valley for several years, she finally took up the pen because she wanted the perks of being able to nap during the day, and it was easier than moving to Spain. She plays classical piano, raises children, and writes YA fiction.
