Bird is new to the forest, and he’s looking for a friend. Bear could use a friend, too.
But Bird is too shy to introduce himself. Just as he musters the courage to say hello…it’s too late! Bear has already found a friend: a bright, shiny red balloon.
Has Bird missed his chance?
From the acclaimed Il Sung Na comes a charming and beautifully illustrated story about courage, kindness, and friendship.
The book is a simplistic, elegantly written story, about a bird who moves to a new forest and wants to make friends with a bear. However, the bear just happens to meet a ballon first, and bird watches sadly as the bear becomes fast friends with the balloon. However, friendship always finds a way...
What's great about Bird, Balloon, Bear, is that it's very much a book about friendships and second chances. We see Bird eager to make friends with Bear, and stressing out when it initially doesn't happen. But we also see what happens when a second chance arises, and it's a wonderful reminder that we should never give up, even when it feels like all hope is lost.
There's also a subtle, but underlying message about the importance of making friends with those who are different than you - as Bird, Ballon and Bear most definitely are - and Il Sung Na relays that with grace and good humor.
Featuring spectacular illustrations with a bright palette, this is a book that is perfect for any young reader.
