This time, Mr. Panda's black-and-white animal friends are curious what he's making, but only one has the patience to stick around. An alpaca, an aardvark, rabbits, and a bird all wind up missing out. It's the penguin who declares, "I'll wait, Mr. Panda." The penguin is rewarded with a big SURPRISE: a giant doughnut!
I'll Wait, Mr. Panda is a graphic, kid-friendly way of teaching the value of patience and the importance of saying "thank you."
In I'll Wait, Mr. Panda, Steve Antony reintroduces us to the titular panda, who is again challenging the world around him. HIs friends keep asking him what he's doing, but only one black-and-white penguin has the patience to wait and stick it out. Like the last book, the penguin gets a reward for his good manners...
Antony's writing and illustrations in I'll Wait, Mr. Panda is as delightful as the previous book. He continues to use short dialogue to keep readers engaged and moving from page to page, while the simplicity of the drawings helps to keep the imaginations going. This sequel is perfect for older readers because of the snarky, funny tone, and also perfect for young readers who can absorb the joy and humor of the tale.
Bottom line: In a few pages, author and illustrator Steve Antony has written a delightful tale on the importance of having manners, and how those who learn patience are rewarded with a BIG surprise.
Parents and older readers will appreciate the book's clever underlying focus on manners, but will likely also be bemused by Steve Antony's slightly droll take on Mr. Panda. Younger readers will take joy in the menagerie of animals that cross the grumpy panda's path, but also benefit from a manners lesson that doesn't feel like a chore.
