Perfect for fans of Mo Willems’s Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! and Jon Klassen’s I Want My Hat Back!
Frog is bored. He can’t find ANYTHING to do—even when his animal friends make good suggestions, like sleeping all day, licking between his toes, or hopping around and then staring off into space. Will he find a fun and exciting way to spend his day? Featuring the beloved characters from I Don’t Want to Be a Frog and I Don’t Want to Be Big, this new story is sure to bring a smile to every kid who’s ever said “There’s nothing to do!”
Frog is bored, and roams around trying to find something to do for the day. However, he quickly rejects everything his friends recommend, until another friend comes up with a wise solution...
What's great about Petty's latest picture book, are the layers that come with a straightforward tale. It's definitely a tale of Frog feeling bored, but eventually coming to the realization that there are ways to spend his time that don't involve actually doing something.
But at a deeper level, it can also be interpreted as a subtle nod to the idea that young people these days, spend too much time actually doing things. There's very little time for them to just sit and watch the day go by, and calm their minds - something that's beautifully illustrated by a two-page spread of Frog just quietly enjoying the landscape.
It's a fantastic reminder to those young and old alike, that even with our busy, technology-driven world, it's important to occasionally just stop and smell the roses. With Boldt's bold illustrations cheerfully accentuating Petty's each and every word, There's Nothing to Do! is a book that needs to be on every shelf.
Highly recommend, full stop.
