Happy Sunday, Reading Nook!
Today, we're celebrating National Book Lover's Day with Casper Sleep! Casper Sleep is an awesome online-based company, which sells mattresses straight to your door!
We're sharing five of our favorite picture books, and explaining why they're awesome books that help us celebrate reading AND sleeping!
5. Stick and Stone by Beth Ferry, Tom Lichtenheld (Illust.) (HMH BFYR)
Stick and Stone is a perfect story about friendship, and also absolutely wonderful for bedtime.
Beth Ferry and Tom Lichtenheld have written a colorful, warm-hearted story about two friends who find each other, and are able to protect each other through thick and thin.
Younger readers will feel comforted after reading this delightful book, and go to bed realizing that they're never alone!
4. Henry's Stars by David Elliot (Philomel)
Seeing the world through different, imginative eyes, is the lovely premise behind Henry's Stars.
David Elliot's picture book will remind young readers to appreciate the night sky, and find wonder in the stars shining down. The book will also remind young readers on the importance of respecting difference opinions, and help them respect those ideas as they go to sleep.
3. Where Are My Books? by Debbie Ohi (Simon & Schuster BFYR)
In Where Are My Books? Debbie celebrates an appreciation of reading, sleeping and making new friends.
We love this book, because it celebrates the importance of spending time together before bed every night, and making sure that young readers go off to dreamy land with a story in their heart. Ohi also emphasizes the importance of sharing that love of reading with others, which is sure to make this a perfect bedtime staple for all. :)
(P.S. Who doesn't love plush narwhals?)
2. To the Sea by Cale Atkinson (Disney Hyperion)
Unusual friendships and teamworks form the premise behind To the Sea, and it's quickly become one of our favorites.
Artist Cale Atkinson has written a friendly joyous tale of a young boy, who meets a lost whale. Their subsequent attempts to help the whale get home, are a great reminder of the importance of teamwork and friendship.
This is a warm, comforting read, and will undoubtedly help young readers to get to sleep.
1. The Amazing Hamweenie Escapes! by Patty Bowman (Philomel)
Tom and I are both friends of cats - especially Worm! - so we love the funny, delightful The Amazing Hamweenie Escapes!
Readers will love Hamweenie's rich imagination, and impulse for adventure. Younger readers will also feel immensely satisfied at the reminder that it's always possible to come home, and go off to sleep happy!
