Amid the hustle and bustle of the big city, the big crowds and bigger buildings, Little Elliot leads a quiet life. In spite of the challenges he faces, Elliot finds many wonderful things to enjoy—like cupcakes! And when his problems seem insurmountable, Elliot discovers something even sweeter—a friend.
Curato's debut is a perfect gem of a tale, packed full of funny and charming life lessons. From the very first page, Little Elliot always cheerfully embraces his differences, taking both his polka dots and his small stature in stride. Readers will definitely giggle at Little Elliot's creative solutions to his size, including multi-task by taking a bath and washing dishes in the sink at the same time!
But even when things get a little bit tough, Little Elliot isn't afraid. Parents and educators will undoubtedly appreciate Little Elliot's willingness to tackle big challenges, like going out in a crowd of people who are far bigger than him. He knows it's scary, but he won't let his size stop him!
Of course, things are always better with a friend by your side. Curato's gentle reminder of the importance of embracing others who may also appear to be different, and the value of working together to overcome tough challenges, is a heartwarming way to end such a sweet, thoughtful tale.
Outside of the story, Curato's beautiful drawings will definitely melt the heart of any reader. Elliot's city has a certain old-school charm - including a sly nod to the Flatiron - while Elliot looks ready for a hug from his soon to be fans from all over the world.
Bottom line: Get this book for the special person in your life. This is a winner, and a must-have for readers of any age.
