Froggy loves the library! When Froggy, Pollywogilina, and Mom set out for the library, Froggy brings a wheelbarrow to carry all the books he plans to borrow. There are so many to choose from. Dinosaurs! Space Frog! Froggy is so excited he forgets to use his indoor voice, and when storytime comes, he has the whole library dancing and singing the “Wiggle wiggle, waggle waggle” song—including the librarian, Miss Otterbottom. “Come again soon, Froggy!” she says.
Readers love to laugh at the antics of delightful Froggy, who has appeared in twenty-seven picture books.
Author Jonathan London brings us back into Froggy's world, in his twenty-fifth adventure. Froggy's looking forward to going to the library and picking up books, but quickly realizes that he needs to learn how to observe the rules of the library as well...
There are many things to love about this latest romp in Froggy's world, beginning with the idea that Froggy is continuing his love of trying something different. He's proven in the past that he's willing to try sports and eat out, and the library is another reminder of the joy to be found in new places - an important lesson for burgeoning young readers.
However, in classic London style, Froggy's romp to the library isn't without obstacles. Though he clearly loves being able to find books that he's interested in, London does a nice job of reminding readers of the importance of obeying rules in a shared environment.
Froggy is gently reminded by librarian Miss Otterbottom that the library isn't just his individual space, and he needs to make the environment equally enjoyable for those around him. It's a gentle and positive reminder for young readers, who may be looking to learn how to interact with those around them for the first time - a lesson he takes to heart as the book comes to an end.
The book is brightly colored with Frank Remkiewicz's colorful illustrations, and makes the book enjoyable and vibrant for readers of all ages.
Bottom line: Froggy Goes to the Library is a fantastic book on the benefit of the library, and learning how to work cooperatively in shared spaces. It's also a wonderful introduction to the Froggy series.
