Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop:
Here's my stop on the Banned Books Week Giveaway Hop. It's being hosted by hosted by I Am A Reader and Bookhounds! - thanks guy!
Banned Books Week is meant to be recognition to books that are banned and/or challenged in schools around the nation. As stated on the official Banned Books Week Site:
"Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than 11,300 books have been challenged since 1982 according to the American Library Association."
Books are challenged for a variety of reasons, but Tom, Adam and I wanted to specifically recognize books that are being challenged for having LGBT content. We're very supportive of LGBT rights, and we think that these books do a great service to readers, young and old everywhere.
They help readers who are exploring and recognizing their own sexuality for the first time realize that their feelings are normal, and perfectly okay. We know plenty of people who have told us how these books have changed their lives.
So with that in mind, we're offering three books for giveaway. These books have either been challenged, and/or the authors have been disinvited from speaking at events because of the book content.
