Today, we're thrilled to have Ryan Graudin on the blog for a Q&A. Her glorious All That Glows releases tomorrow, and you'll totally want to read it!
Also, come back later today for our review of the book!

But first, a Q&A!
Q: A lot of novels are inspired by one question or a eureka moment for the author - could you tell me about a question or eureka moment that inspired All That Glows?:
My mind started churning of what fae would be like in our modern world. Then I thought about faery godmothers and what they would be like if they had to shadow today’s royalty. It kind of tumbled out from there! I sat down and wrote chapter 2 as a short story, then realized that I had a novel sized tale on my hands.
A: The journeys for writers often differ. Some are published within a year of finding an agent; some spend several years making that journey from finding an agent to their final publication date.
You’ve spoken before in interviews about how you found your agent in 2011 – right around the time of the royal wedding! – but could you tell us what the journey has been like since that date? And any wise advice you’ve learned along the way, as you get closer to publication?
Other than keep writing, I think my best advice (and I say this as much for myself as for anyone else) is try not to play the comparison game. I knew a lot of people who sold their books after me and got them on the shelves much sooner and that was somewhat jealousy inducing. But slowly I’m learning that my journey is mine. And I must embrace it!
Q: So let’s talk about the book! Readers interpret what they read differently, but what’s one theme or message that you hope readers take away from All That Glows?
Q: If you could have tea with one of the characters from your book, who would you choose and why?
Q: You’re in an elevator with Alfonso Cuaron, and you have fifteen seconds to pitch him All That Glows as a future feature film. What would you say?
(Honestly I’d probably flush a lot and have audible heart palpitations instead.)
Q: What’s the one expectation that you had about publishing before you were published, which has turned out to be different in reality?
Q: Finally, could you tell us about your upcoming projects?
There are three rules in the Walled City: Run fast. Trust no one. Always carry your knife. Right now, my life depends completely on the first. Run, run, run.
Jin, Mei Yee, and Dai all live in the Walled City, a lawless labyrinth run by crime lords and overrun by street gangs. Teens there run drugs or work in brothels—or, like Jin, hide under the radar. But when Dai offers Jin a chance to find her lost sister, Mei Yee, she begins a breathtaking race against the clock to escape the Walled City itself.
The sequel to ALL THAT GLOWS is due to come out in Winter 2015 and I have a sekrit duology that I’m really excited about out with Little, Brown starting Fall 2015.
